Living in the countryside of Yorkshire for many years, it was perhaps natural for our founder Ruth Bayley to have an affinity with the countryside and its wildlife.
Creativity is the passionate driving force for Ruth, and finding an outlet for it in television and radio, she worked for many years as a producer for the BBC and ITV. However a love of photography and being surrounded by nature called her to return to her photography training.
Ruth is never happier than when witnessing and photographing moments of natural beauty. When after a day of rain the sun has re-appeared to set; spotlighting parts of a hillside or hearing the rush of fresh mountain streams flowing to the sea or taking photos of raindrops on delicate petals, she'll feel exhilarated from the beauty around her. It's these moments that she captures and shares with you throughout our galleries.
The gallery of Signature Work is full of images where Ruth has thrown caution to the wind, experimenting and pulling off something rather wonderful and unique. Having lived in many places around Europe, she draws on her local knowledge for lighting and scenery to produce some captivating work in Italy, from the island of Capri on the Amalfi Coast to Lake Garda to the north of the country.
Ruth writes a weekly column for an online photography magazine, Current Photographer, where she talks about her journey of setting up her business and gives much useful advice for anyone thinking of doing similar.
A lover of the natural world Ruth takes great care not to impact on the local surroundings in her pursuit of a memorable photo. With this in mind, 10% of sales from Ruth Bayley Photography is donated to two charities: Friends of the Earth - a charity which does important environmental work in this country and throughout the world, and the Woodland Trust, who do essential work in looking after our forests.
